Sitcoms may be an escape from reality for viewers, but they also often reflect the very things the audiences are trying to escape from. Over the years, sitcoms have aired episodes revolving around pregnancies, weddings, and even breakups. However, one of the most popular life events that sitcoms have shown in various forms is the dreaded and exciting first date.
From soulmates finally getting together to awkward teenagers pretending to know what they're doing, sitcom first date episodes are sure to make viewers laugh and even cringe. And the best part is that the first date episode can mean a lot of things for its characters, which makes them so appealing.
After the unexpected loss of his wife, Danny Tanner dedicated his life to making sure his three daughters were okay, leaving him no time to date. However, that changed halfway through season 1 when Danny befriended fellow single parent, Linda.
\"Danny's Very First Date\" is a special first date episode because it tackles the hard topic of dating after losing a spouse. Even more, the episode is able to tell that story from different perspectives, including how Danny's two eldest daughters feel about him dating again.
The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air's first date episode centered on Ashley, the youngest Banks child. After her older sister gets Ashley's favorite rapper, Little T, to sing at her birthday, the two hit it off and agree to go on an official date. While Ashley is excited, Will and Carlton have reservations since Little T is a famous rapper.
\"Just Infatuation\" covers a lot of different anxieties that arise from a first date, which is what makes it so iconic. Carlton and Will tackle the protective older brother role, Philip deals with his baby girl growing up, and Ashley worries about the traditional first date anxieties.
Nick and Jess managed to be one of the shortest will-they won't-they couples in TV history considering they started dating in the show's second season. After confiding in their friends for advice, Nick and Jess decide to go out on an official date, which turned out to be hilariously disastrous.
From mismatched expectations, getting a ticket for jaywalking, and surprise exes turning up, Nick and Jess's first date is one of the worst ever. Even though the date didn't go as planned, the two have a great time, which proves that all that matters in love is the chemistry.
Eric and Donna might not be the \"it\" couple of That '70s Show, but they did become a memorable one. Despite Donna having \"study date\" plans with Hyde, she agrees to go out to dinner with Eric the day before Valentine's Day. That's the high point of the date as things only get worse from there,
Like many first-day sitcom episodes, things don't go as planned at first. However, Eric never gives up his need to make this the perfect date and in the end, he gets what he wants: Donna becomes his official girlfriend.
While DJ and Steve were one of the most iconic couples on Full House, they are one iconic sitcom couple that almost didn't end up together. Thankfully, they got their second chance in Fuller House, which led to them going on a second first date. Unfortunately, they get trapped inside the house because of fog, which puts a damper on their romantic evening plans.
Though their date may not have been what they had in mind, DJ and Steve still get to spend time together, which is what dates are all about. Besides, fans of the two were just excited to see them finally connecting in a romantic way again.
After years of watching his best friends Cory and Topanga in love, Shawn finally finds himself wanting a relationship of his own. However, Shawn doesn't know how to set up a fancy date, so Cory does it for him, landing Shawn and Angela at a much too fancy restaurant for the couple's first date.
\"Chasing Angela\" is a fun episode because it juxtaposes Shawn and Angela's first date with Cory and Topanga's anniversary one. It also showcases that no two couples are the same and made Shawn and Angela a fan-favorite couple.
After several episodes of Riley and Lucas crushing on each other, Lucas finally asks Riley out after getting Cory's permission. However, Cory demands that it be a double date. Though the date is spent majorly on the subway, it's full of awkward and sweet moments.
Nothing says \"first date\" quite like being a middle schooler on your first date, which is why this Girl Meets World episode is so great. The episode also culminates in an adorable and iconic sitcom first kiss.
Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 created one of the most frustrating children show's will-they won't-they couples of all time. After years of Chase secretly pining for Zoey, the two are on the same page and agree to date. The only problem is Chase is stuck in London while Zoey is back at PCA.
\"Trading Places\" was slightly ahead of its time since Chase and Zoey were forced to have their first date via video chat. Just like in real life, their date was complicated by technical issues but the two made the best of it, which pleased fans of the show.
It's ironic that \"Grad Night\" is the highest-rated first date episode of a sitcom considering David had no idea he was on a date in the first place. Instead, David thought Patrick was simply taking him to dinner to celebrate his birthday that his family forgot about.
While the episode is awkward, it's also home to one of the best romantic gestures on Schitt's Creek when Patrick gifts David their very first receipt from Rose Apothocary. The episode is also hilarious, as David comes to the conclusion that he is on an official date.
They're as different as night and day and as unlikely as they come, but it was clear from episode one of Brooklyn Nine-Nine that Detectives Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) would eventually find their way to each other. It all started with a bet that if Amy solved more crimes than Jake, he'd have to give up his beloved car. If Amy solved more crimes than Jake, she'd have to go on a terrible date with him. You can guess who ended up winning.
One of the greats, even when things get real cringeworthy. Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) and Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) clearly loved each other from day one, but their timing was simply terrible, making for one heck of a story of sexual tension and the ultimate tale of how annoying it can be to date your coworker.
Alexa (Google, Siri, whatever), play \"Anything Could Happen.\" Nick Miller (Jake Johnson) and Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel) didn't always work perfectly, and at one point, the best thing they could possibly do for both themselves and the show was break up. But when they worked, they really worked. We still think regularly about their first kiss, and we're still convinced Nick Miller is one of the best boyfriends on TV.
You wouldn't be disappointed if you start with the pilot, but here are the best Nick and Jess episodes from season one:S1E3, \"Wedding\" (Note: They pretend to date in this one.) S1E4, \"Naked\"S1E5, \"Cece Crashes\"S1E15, \"Injured\"S1E24, \"See Ya\"
Season three is a Nick and Jess roller coaster. Start it from the beginning if you want, but just beware that Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is attempting to date both Cece (Hannah Simone) and Elizabeth (Merritt Wever) for the first five episodes and it is upsetting. Do not, under any circumstances, miss S3E14, \"Prince.\"
Tune back in full-time for season six, even though Nick and Jess both date other people. You can skip around, but make sure you watch S6E15, \"Glue,\" and then everything from S6E18, \"Young Adult\" to S6E22, \"Five Stars for Beezus.\" Prepare yourself for that elevator ride at the end of that episode, and settle in for all of season seven to watch Nick and Jess get married before the series ends.

While being briefed by Kolrami in the observation lounge, Captain Picard and Riker are at first reluctant to take part in this simulation as they believe diplomacy and exploration are the more important mandates of Starfleet, and that Starfleet itself is not a military organization. However, because of the newly-discovered Borg threat, they decide it is a good idea to hone their tactical skills so as to have as many options as possible in crisis situations.
Picard gives Riker his choice of officers (save Data, who will be his first officer while Riker is absent). Riker goes down to engineering to ask Geordi La Forge to join him. La Forge has already prepared the necessary engineering tools to join Riker on the Hathaway. Next, he goes to Worf's quarters, where Worf is attempting to build a wooden ship. He breaks one of the wooden pieces after hearing the chime to his quarters rung by Riker and shoves the ship into a drawer. Worf thinks the exercise is a waste of time, but Riker convinces him to join the team after remarking that he has a hopeless chance of winning, which piques Worf's interest. Finally, Riker asks Wesley Crusher to come along as an observer.
